Voter Approval on Bond 2022 Made the Dream of a New SHS a Reality

Of all the facilities that need attention, Spring High School required urgent action. The school was built in 1968 and had already surpassed its useful life cycle. The addition of its ninth-grade center helped alleviate crowding and created a safer, more flexible environment for students. The main high school building, however, needed to be rebuilt and replaced due to outdated conditions.

The Spring ISD community passed the 2022 Bond on November 8, 2022. This bond had a total of 3 propositions totaling $850 million. Proposition A ($681 million) included rebuilding Spring High School at a new location at 630 Riley Fuzzel Rd. Thanks to the support from Spring ISD residents, we will soon have a new school that will serve generations to come. We appreciate the community’s investment in our future!

The new Spring High School was designed with the latest technology, resources, and amenities to provide students with a state-of- the-art learning environment. From modern classrooms equipped with interactive displays to spacious common areas, the new school building is created with the student experience in mind including all student programs the campus offers will now be readily accessible to all students at a single campus.

The new Spring High School will serve students in grades 10–12 along with a dedicated ninth-grade center. Spanning 680,490 square feet across two floors, the campus will accommodate up to 3,500 students. It’s student-centered design fosters a sense of belonging, provides a safe and secure setting that empowers teachers to create meaningful instructional experiences for student learning and growth. Both the ninth-grade center and main high school entries are located along a common drive, allowing parents to drop off students of various ages with ease. The school is designed with four miles of drives and over 2,000 parking spaces to allow for off-street parking and ease of traffic for parents, students, and buses.

The campus will serve as a beacon in the community providing a welcoming atmosphere throughout the campus. Designed with student experience in mind, the school will include multiple outdoor learning environments and art courts connected by a large, centrally located courtyard secured on all four sides. The new Spring High School will reflect its unique identity and history with a focus on the future and a culture of community.

A state-of-the-art performing arts center will highlight the facility, offering seating for 1,200 with a balcony and full fly loft. The fine arts program will also feature a flexible black box theater, ideal for smaller performances and creative instruction. The Performing Arts Center will be a space for students to showcase their talents.

Athletic facilities will include four gyms and a 1,000-seat arena with both telescopic and fixed seating and a Dance Gym. Additionally, the school will include 250-seat natatorium with a competition pool and removable bulkhead. The natatorium will be the only competition pool in the district. While each venue will provide its own entry and ticketing, they will share a central lobby complete with concessions and restrooms.

Nearby, students will have access to practice fields and competitive venues for tennis, softball, and baseball, supported by the necessary ancillary spaces and parking.

The project also incorporates a 13,668-square-foot Agricultural Barn with 56 pens, located in the northwest corner of the site and accessible from the new Riley-Fuzzle Road entry. When the new Spring High School opens, the current Ag Barn will be relocated to the Spring High School property. This will be the first time in the school’s history that the Ag Barn will be located within the boundaries of Spring ISD and adjacent to the campus.
